Seaside Reflections

ree

A few weeks ago, I got to walk along the Oregon coast as the sun was setting, and let me tell you, it was beautiful.

The most inspiring part wasn’t the clouds, though.

Or the colors or seagulls or anything like that, actually.

No. It was the sand. The boring, dusty ground …

You see, this sand was so saturated with seawater that it mirrored the sky above it. The brilliance of the heavens was reflected on the earth—multiplying its majesty and illuminating the ever-growing dark—and it’s got me thinking:

Essentially, this is what us Christ followers are called to do. But how do we actually go about imitating the perfect, priceless, Prince of Peace?

By accepting that we can never measure up to Him.

By acknowledging that we are but sand—but dust—and can’t replace the glorious Son.

All we can do, my dear readers, is seek Him—soak up His Words, talk to Him regularly—and miraculously, He can turn our sandy selves into conduits of His light, love, and Truth.

Therefore, I pray that we reflect His magnificent light, becoming so saturated and transformed as we let go of fear and cling to Him...

That people won’t be able to ignore His radiance.

That they will see the Son mirrored in the joy of His people, and they will yearn for Him too.

That they'll seek the fear-fighting freedom that only He can provide.

After all, only the Son’s rays have the power to evaporate the smelly, rotten waters of sin. And only He can use dull, pointless sand to refract and reflect one of His greatest blessings:

Redemption.
