Walking with Jesus

I'm gonna be honest with you guys - I don't know when or why I wrote this mini's quote. All I know is that it proves true for what I'm going through right now.

What do you do when you don't know where God's leading you? For me, that's a question pertaining to my books... specifically, how to publish them. For the last year, I've relied upon self-publishing to share my works; however, I can count on one hand the number of copies I've sold.

A couple weeks ago, I was able to get insights from a previous college professor (who just happens to be an author AND illustrator, like I aim to be), and learn about the traditional publishing field. While this meeting was super helpful, I'm left at a crossroads:

If I self-publish, I don't have to deal with stressful deadlines or compromising the manuscripts. Furthermore, I'm able to work at an unhurried pace, which is crucial for connecting with the true Author of these books. But I can't make an income that way. Or reach people the way book-store-stocking publishers can.

Now, you may be wondering why I can't just try to get accepted by a publishing house, and if they don't want me, just self-publish instead.

Well, my friends, I technically could do that. But I'd spend a ton of time writing book proposals instead of actual books. And most companies won't accept projects that are already self-published (you see my dilemma yet?).

Really, I can either spend years trying to publish with a firm that'll reach many people, or reach a few people by self-publishing now. If my rambling hasn't clued you in, I have no idea what God wants me to do.

I know everything is in His time, so if Fear Fighting doesn't get published until I'm 30, then that's for His good. And yet, I already have two more ideas for future projects floating around in my head; if He's inspiring me at such a rapid pace, I want to share that inspiration as promptly as I can.

Okay, I've spent enough time brain dumping. This post (believe it or not) isn't about me, but Him. Because He says...

"Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand" (Is 41:10).

And tells us to...

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways, submit to Him and He will direct your steps" (Prov 3:5-6)

So we can say...

"When I am afraid, I will trust in You. In God, I will praise Him Word. In God I trust and am not afraid. I will not fear; what can mere mortals do to me?" (Psalm 56:3-4)

Friends, as long as we walk hand-in-hand with our Savior, we are safe. We may not know what to do, but our eyes are on Him.

The Author and Perfector of our faith will never lead us astray.
