Maddie Miller outside in a garden

Welcome to Handiworks!

I'm Maddie Miller, and I love to create. In fact, I'm convinced that God created me to create. Both art-making and writing stir my soul and ignite my heart, to the point where my naturally-serious self is grinning like a little kid.

I'm a Messiah University grad, having earned my BA in English, with a Creative Writing focus, and a Studio Art minor.

For as long as I can remember, I've dreamed of being an author and illustrator; and that dream is almost a reality. I'm a few months away from publishing two books, and my artmaking business has launched!

When I'm not working on my various creative endeavors, I'm probably walking, laughing with my loved ones, or studying my utterly-fascinating yet extremely moody pet fish, Bartholomew.

Why Handiworks?

Handiworks by Maddie gets its name from one of my favorite Bible verses,

Ephesians 2:10:

"We are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works,

which He prepared in advance for us to do."

We are God's greatest creation, His masterpieces, as another translation

phrases it. And ultimately, that's what I want Handiworks to be about...

My mission is to glorify God with His Truth, encouragement, and beauty.

As someone who struggles with anxiety, OCD, and depression, it's all too easy for me to forget about my identity as God's cherished child. Can you relate?

We are all God's masterpieces, and if we've crossed the line of faith, we are His children as well. But do we live out that reality? Do we live in fear and hopelessness and despair, or do we focus on the victory that Christ has gifted to us?

In recent years, God's been transforming me from a worrier to a warrior. And as He's been remaking me into a "Fear Fighter," as I like to say, He's shown me how powerful and healing words (and artwork) can be... which is why I'm sharing all of my God-inspired creations here!

So much of our daily life is a mental and spiritual battle, and like any warriors, we need armor. What better armor than the Armor of God, the Word of God?

That's what Handiworks is for:

To speak "the Truth that sets us free," and be a place to share in the highs and lows of batting for His Kingdom (John 8:32). We all need fellowship and encouragement, and I pray you find that here.

May our great God use my stories of trial and triumph to encourage you and remind you that you are not alone or forgotten. You are seen and loved unconditionally by a God who calls you by name (Is. 43:1). He has a wonderful plan for your life (Jer. 29:11).

So, welcome to Handiworks by Maddie!

Whatever is accomplished here, may it be for God's glory - Soli Deo Gloria!
