I've Got Nothin'

This blog post has no big idea. No message. No grand conclusion that aims to inspire and invigorate you. Because truth be told, I have no clue what to write about.

Sure, there’ve been things on my mind this week. And I could write about any of them, technically. The rainy, dreary weather. The aching for spring and sunlight. The stress management. The lessons from babysitting. The progress on my art and books.

But alas, we are left with nothing. I just don’t feel inspired this week.

Usually, God helps with that. Like with my past post, He’s pretty much always made a way through whatever creative challenge I’ve faced.

Writer’s block’s never been an issue with my various books. If I don’t have a painting idea, I’ll just finger paint and play with cool colors until I find one.

I mean, for goodness sake, I find inspiration in burnt out street lamps. Half-dead leaves. And possibly my favorite, the toddler that has just spent the past hour screaming in my ear.

Why, today of all days, when I go down to write something for you… I’m left with nothing?

The same thing happened this weekend too, come to think of it. I wanted to paint a crocus, my favorite dainty spring flower that pops up in our yard.

Three hours and three messed up canvases later…

Let’s just say those canvases will go into my reuse pile.

Is my creativity on the fritz? Is it leaving me, evaporating like the morning dew when faced with the sun’s harsh rays?

Because, fun fact, this is technically my third attempt at finishing this blog. Every time I go off on some tangent that, to be frank, I don’t have the energy to go down.

So, what are we going to do, friends? We are here to read, to learn and love Jesus. And yet, our writer has no words.

Perhaps we should look at His…

“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged” (Deuteronomy 31:8-9).

“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze" (Isaiah 43:1-2).

“The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. He fulfills the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them” (Psalm 145:18-19).

“Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal” (2 Corinthians 4:16-18).

“Cast all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7).

“Because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’ So we say with confidence, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?’" (Hebrews 13:5-6).

“You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance. I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you” (Psalm 32:7-8).

“But Jesus looked at them and said, 'With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible’” (Matthew 19:26).

“And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:1-2).

“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).

Well, there you have it, friends. Ten truths that can nurture our souls. And I did not write any of them.

The One who is greater than all of us did. We are His vessels, designed to glorify Him.

So, I know this has been an unorthodox blog post. You may be feeling cheated because the majority of this I am not the author of.

But His words are better than any I could ever write. They are alive and active, possessing immense power because they are His. I pray that they soothe and comfort you like they have done for me.

Seek and you will find, friends. When you have nothing, God still has everything.
